Planning and Governance of Informal Urban Developments in Nigeria
September 4, 2015
Good progress has been made in the six months since the University of the West of England’s Construction and Property Research Centre (CPRC) started their research on planning and governance of informal urban developments in Nigeria.
A team of UK-based researchers visited Nigeria in July 2015, and met with research collaborators from the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The country visit and meetings with the collaborators form part of the efforts geared towards the implementation of the next phase of the research, which will include city-wide stakeholder workshops in Enugu (Enugu State) and Minna (Niger State). The team also visited Garatu and Nykangbe, two possible case study communities in Minna, and interacted with community leaders.
The overall aim of the research is to examine the system of land acquisition, planning and governance for informal urban development in Nigeria with the view to gain a deeper understanding for policy formulation and practice.
